Ellaise

Soil moisture sensor with SoilSure® Technology

94% of professional gardeners recommend it
$54.99

Ellaise is a sensor that stays in your plant’s pot. It measures the moisture of the soil at the roots and shows it on your phone as a number from 0 to 100%.

  • SoilSure® sensors are the most accurate soil moisture sensors on the market.
  • The probe reads 4 inches down, where the roots are. The top of the soil dries days before the soil at the roots.
  • Your phone tells you when to water. You set the moisture level for each plant once.
  • It stays in the soil all year. The probe is sealed and has no bare metal, so it does not corrode.

Inside the probe

Ellaise SoilSure® Technology

The probe uses sensors with Ellaise SoilSure® Technology. These are the most accurate soil moisture sensors on the market.

Why the finger test and the $10 meter get it wrong

2 in 4 in DRY WET

A finger reaches 2 inches into the soil. The soil there is dry.

Ellaise reads 4 inches down, where the roots are. The soil there is still wet.

  • A pot dries from the top down

The top 2 inches can be dry while the soil at the roots is still wet. Roots that stay wet get no air, and they rot.

  • A $10 meter measures with bare metal

Its metal tip measures how well the soil carries electricity. Fertilizer changes that, so the needle moves when the moisture has not changed. The metal corrodes in wet soil, so the meter cannot stay in the pot.

  • A watering schedule cannot see the soil

A pot dries faster in summer, near a window and when the plant grows. A reminder every Sunday knows none of that.

  • Ellaise reads at the roots and stays there

The probe reaches 4 inches down. It is sealed and has no bare metal, so it stays in the soil all year and measures every minute.

How to use it

  1. Close view of fingers pushing the black probe into dark potting soil.
    Step 1

    Push it into the soil

The probe goes straight down, halfway between the stem and the edge of the pot. The white head stays above the soil.

  2. A hand holds a phone next to Ellaise in the pot of a monstera. The app shows that the soil sensor is added.
    Step 2

    Connect it to your phone

Two AAA batteries go in the back. The Smart Life app or the Tuya app finds the sensor and joins it to your home WiFi. No hub is needed.

  3. A thumb sets the level to 30% in the app on a phone.
    Step 3

Set the level for your plant

You choose the moisture level the soil should not drop below. When the soil reaches it, your phone tells you to water.

The sensor stays in the pot and measures the soil every minute.

What you see on your phone

Questions and answers

How accurate is it?

The probe uses sensors with Ellaise SoilSure® Technology. These are the most accurate soil moisture sensors on the market. Two Ellaise sensors in the same pot show the same number.

At what number do I water?

You set one level for each plant. Most leafy houseplants are watered at 30%. Cacti and succulents are watered at 10%. Ferns and other plants that like wet soil are watered at 40%. Your phone alerts you when the soil drops to the level you set.

Does it work in my soil?

Yes. Ellaise reads in potting soil, coco coir, cactus and succulent mix, chunky aroid mix and peat-free compost.

What size of pot does it fit?

It fits any pot that is at least 5 inches (13 cm) tall. The probe is 4 inches long and reads the soil down to its tip.

Can it stay in the soil all the time?

Yes. The probe is sealed and rated IP67, and no bare metal touches the soil. Watering, fertilizer and rain do not harm it. Outdoors it works from -4 to 140°F (-20 to 60°C).

How does it connect to my phone?

Ellaise works with the Smart Life app and the Tuya app. Both are free for iPhone and Android. Ellaise joins your home WiFi on the 2.4 GHz band, and no hub is needed. The app shows your plants wherever you are.

How long do the batteries last?

Ellaise runs on two AAA batteries, and they last more than 12 months. The app shows the battery level. The batteries are not included.

Can I use it for several plants?

Each sensor stays in one pot. The app holds as many sensors as you have plants and shows each one under the name you give it.

Does it measure anything else?

It also measures the temperature of the soil, in °F or °C.

When will it arrive?

Delivery takes 6 to 8 days. The dates for an order placed today are shown under the ADD TO CART button.

What if it does not work for me?

You have 60 days from delivery to try it. If you want your money back, for any reason, you get a full refund and a prepaid return label. We do not ask why.
